Endless Fire Collar – Flexible Intumescent Collar for Plastic Pipes 40–160mm

The FireEG Endless Fire Collar is a segmented, flexible intumescent fire collar that wraps around plastic pipes of any diameter from 40mm to 160mm — including non-standard and metric pipe sizes where fixed-diameter collars cannot be used. The intumescent strip activates at 180°C, expanding to seal the pipe penetration as the plastic pipe melts during a fire event. Shell in 304 stainless steel. No specialist tools required for installation.

How the Endless Fire Collar Works

Unlike fixed-size fire collars that are manufactured for specific pipe diameters, the Endless Fire Collar is supplied as a continuous segmented strip that the installer cuts and forms to the required pipe circumference on site.

Each segment is 15mm in length. The installer counts out the required number of segments for the pipe diameter (see table above), cuts to length, wraps the collar around the pipe, and connects the ends using the clip system — no adhesive, no tools, no pre-formed housing required.

When fire occurs and the pipe temperature exceeds 180°C, the intumescent strip within the collar expands inward, compressing and sealing the void left by the melting plastic pipe — restoring the fire compartmentation of the floor or wall assembly.

Installation Overview

Step 1 — Measure and cut
Count the required number of 15mm segments for the nominal pipe diameter (see specification table). Cut the collar to length along the segment line.

Step 2 — Trim the intumescent strip
Trim the intumescent material flush with the cut metal edge to ensurea clean connection.

Step 3 — Wrap around pipe
Clean the outer surface of the plastic pipe. Bend the collar into an approximately circular shape and wrap it around the pipe.

Step 4 — Connect with clips
Insert Tab A into Slot B and Tab B into Slot A. Once the click sound is heard, the connection is secured. Install clips at the specified intervals (3 clips for 40–90mm; 4 clips for 110–160mm).

Step 5 — Seal annular gap (if required)
If the annular gap between pipe and hole exceeds 2mm, apply a 10mm deep bead of FireEG FEG-1000E firestop sealant around the perimeter.

Step 6 — Fix to substrate
Fix the collar to the floor or wall substrate using appropriate anchors for the substrate type (see fixing table). Cutting surface must face toward the mounting wall.

Substrate Fixing Guide

For HDPE Pipes (40–160mm):

For PVC, PP (Triplus & Raupiano) Pipes (40–160mm):

Same fixing options as above apply. Refer to full data sheet for complete specification.

Special Installation: 150–160mm Pipes

For pipe diameters of 150–160mm, a double-collar installation is required:

  1. Make two 40-segment collars with clips slotted in at 90° intervals on both.
  2. Join the two collars together by inverting one collar and aligning
    the fixing holes.
  3. Bolt the collars together through the fixing holes using M6 nuts and bolts.
  4. Place four clips at 90° intervals around the combined collar to use
as fixing points and secure to the substrate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can the Endless Fire Collar be used on copper or cast iron pipes?
No. Like all intumescent fire collars, the Endless Fire Collar is designed for combustible plastic pipes only. Non-combustible metal pipes do not require intumescent collars — the pipe itself does not melt and create an opening during a fire.

Q: Is the Endless Fire Collar suitable for use with pipe insulation?
The collar wraps around the outer surface of the pipe. If insulation is present, please contact us with the pipe and insulation OD to confirm the collar size selection.

Q: What happens if I cut too many segments?
Remove the excess segments before connecting the clips. The segment system allows exact sizing — count carefully using the specification table for your pipe material and nominal diameter.

Q: Does the Endless Fire Collar require fire sealant?
Sealant is optional when the annular gap is 0–2mm. For gaps exceeding 2mm (up to 8.5mm for pipes 40–110mm), a 10mm deep bead of firestop sealant is required. We recommend FireEG FEG-1000E acrylic intumescent sealant for this purpose.

Q: Is the 304 stainless steel shell suitable for corrosive environments?
304 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance for standard indoor applications including humid environments. For aggressive chemical environments, please contact us.

Q: What is the maximum single collar size before double installation
is required?
Single collar installation applies for pipe diameters up to 125mm.
Double collar butt-joint installation is required for 150–160mm pipes.
