Applications – Where FireEG Products Are Specified

FireEG passive fire protection products are installed wherever building fire compartmentation must be maintained at penetrations, gaps, and openings — from individual plastic pipe penetrations in residential floors to large cable tray penetrations in industrial facilities. The following sections describe the primary application categories and the products specified for each.

Plastic Pipe Penetrations — Through Floor & Wall

The fire risk:

When plastic pipes (PVC, CPVC, HDPE, PP) pass through a fire-rated floor or wall, the pipe itself becomes a pathway for fire and smoke to travel between compartments. In a fire, the plastic pipe melts and collapses, leaving an open hole through the fire barrier — unless an intumescent firestop device is installed.

The solution:

An intumescent fire collar installed around the pipe at the floor or wall surface activates when heated above 180°C, expanding inward to crush and seal the void as the pipe melts. Fire compartmentation is restored within the fire-rated assembly.

Fire Door & Window Assemblies

The fire risk:

The gap between a fire door leaf and its frame — typically 2–4mm
when closed — is sufficient for smoke and flame to pass through
in the early stages of a fire. Fire door assemblies are required
to maintain their integrity rating only when the gap is sealed
with a tested intumescent material.

The solution:

Intumescent strips installed in the door leaf rebate or frame
groove remain inert at normal temperatures but expand rapidly
above 180°C, sealing the gap before fire penetrates the assembly.
